Weather affects everybody, and perhaps one of the biggest impacts for some people is when the schedule of an educational institution is disrupted because of it. It’s pretty easy to find reliable forecasts on what kind of weather a storm system will bring, but it can be difficult to extrapolate this information to daily planning if school closings are not yet announced. Snowday Central attempts to bridge this gap. When a storm may impact school activities within 48 hours, we forecast the probability that weather or cleanup conditions will warrant a closing or delay. Probabilities update as necessary, up to several times per day.
At present, served schools include Three Village Central School District, Stony Brook University, and Suffolk County Community College. Our goal, however, is to expand. If you are skilled at forecasting weather and would like to provide snowday predictions for your school on this site, please contact us for further instructions.
